Ever wanted to try your hand at polo?  Now it is possible with KL Academy’s Polo 101 course.  This entry level three-hour course gives you the basics of polo and hitting that little white ball.  KL Academy’s star polo instructors will take you through an afternoon of hitting, first with foot mallets, then on Woody, the wooden horse.  Finally, when you are ready, you’ll mount up and try swinging off a real horse.  Don’t worry if you don’t know how to ride – you will be led while you concentrate fully on your swing.

Jaeger-LeCoultre were the first to take up this offer, sending nine of their staff for the Polo 101 course at the Royal Selangor Polo Club.  KL Academy of Polo’s Shaik Reismann and Shaffik Mustaffa were the star instructors of this course.  Both have represented Malaysia as players and are professional horsemen.  Shaik is the Malaysian polo team captain and Shaffik is also a qualified equestrian instructor who has also represented Malaysia in polo.

Only one of the nine Jaeger-LeCoultre staff had actually ridden before, but all of them were game to try the Polo 101 course.

They were taken through hitting modules, first on foot with short mallets, then on Woody, the wooden horse.  Once they were good enough, they were taken onto the polo field for some real hitting.

They got a 100% record – everyone managed their first hits on the polo field.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Country Manager Reena Tan was effussive about the course.

“It is such a rush to hit that polo ball.  When I connected it was such an electric feeling.  Riding the horse and hitting the ball was an unforgettable combination.  An adrenaline rush of accomplishment.”

Shaik Reismann and Shaffik were complimentary of the group.  “They were good students and learned fast.  It was a pleasure instructing them.”

After hitting practice, the team moved into the Polo Lounge for a talk on the rules of polo and the game.  All nine received Polo 101 certificates from KL Academy of Polo.
