The Federation of International Polo and Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club announced at a press conference on Thursday 13th December that the Fortune Heights FIP Snow Polo World Cup 2013 will take place from 25 January to 3 February 2013 at the Club in Tianjin, China.
The press conference was graced by distinguished guests, including Mr. Huang Weimian, Deputy Director of Tianjin Sports Bureau, Dr. Richard Caleel, President of Federation of International Polo (FIP), team representatives from the twelve participating nations and region and media from around the world.
Hosted by the Federation of International Polo and the Equestrian Association of China and co-organised by the Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club, the event is set to impress. High-calibre players including those from nine of the world’s top ten polo-playing nations will vie for top honour of taking home the championship. Teams from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, England, France, Hong Kong China, India, New Zealand, South Africa and USA will compete for a trophy adorned with four pairs of crossed polo mallets, a unique creation by renowned British silversmith Thomas Lyte.
The large turnout of spectators and media at the previous Snow Polo World Cup 2012 is an indicator of a fast-growing interest in the sport in China, observed Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club Chairman Pan Sutong. “We are seeing a growing passion for the game among Chinese riders of all ages, and it is part of our grand vision to establish the sport of polo across China, so there are plans to support more polo events and programmes in the years ahead. The endorsement of FIP, our world-class facilities and our track record of successfully organising international polo events will help us make this vision a reality”, said Mr. Pan.
Dr. Richard Caleel, President of FIP, said in his speech in support of Metropolitan Polo Club’s vision, “FIP is grateful to the staff of the Metropolitan Polo Club who have worked with us. We would like to thank the Honourable Chairman Pan Sutong for his exceptional support.” In recognition of Mr. Pan’s contributions to polo, both internationally and in China, Dr. Caleel announced at the press conference that Mr. Pan was recently elected to the position of Vice President of FIP by unanimous vote at the Annual FIP General Assembly in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Representatives from the twelve participating nations and region were present at the press conference for the tournament draw. They flew into Tianjin from all corners of the world.

Fortune Heights FIP Snow Polo World Cup 2013 provides a variety of indoor and outdoor locations to enjoy the tournament. Apart from delicious culinary offerings at the Club, families and children may revel in a bevy of musical entertainment and the winter playground.
In keeping with the festive atmosphere of the tournament, the Club’s grounds will be turned into a carnival of wintry delights.
There was a very good omen at the draw as there was a good snowfall that night. It brought a white christmas to the Tianjin Metropolitan Polo Club.
